Though Marjan is usually more quickly associated with designing clothes, it’s well worth remembering that he was also trained as a jewellery designer. This clearly shows in his own range of jewellery in which his clarity for the production of the object comes together with a personal quirky sensibility.
In the current collection, for example, pieces have the heavy decadent feel of strange exotica about them. They speak of weird and wonderful characters on some strange quest through the opium dens of the orient or lost civilisations of some forgotten south sea island.
The beautiful monkey brooch with Swarovski crystal eyes and a green rabbit fur mane or the portentous silver locket with spaces to literally store ones secrets in one’s heart come straight out of a 1940’s film noir thriller in which some shady lady from Shanghai carries the secret to a complex plot or map to an enormous treasure coded in her jewellery.
