Lucien Pellat-Finet has built up a steady reputation for classic luxury knitwear since his launch in the mid 1990’s. But, alongside the tried-and-tested classics, Pellat-Finet has also developed cult status as a designer who is inspired by the underground, appropriates its iconography and inserts it into a luxury context; skulls or stoners’ cannabis leaves woven into high-end cashmere.
Lucien Pellat-Finet also has also undertaken numerous collaborations with artists to date. The most recent of these sees him collaboration with legendary Japanese manga artist Mr (Mister) for a special AW10 collection. Mr, who was discovered by none other than Murakami himself in 1995, is represented by the prestigious Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris.
Together, they have selected a range of iconic images by Mr and worked them onto a series of cashmere sweaters and t-shirts for both women and men and a limited range of luxury household items. Once again, Pellat-Finet takes the visual language of a pop subculture and reinvents it as a luxury item.
Not to mention that March 2010 has seen Pellat-Finet open a new flagship store in the rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, following closely on the heels of the wonderful Tokyo store that opened in December 2009.
